Workshop at the Università ta ‘Malta
On 8th May 2026, the Department of International Relations at the University of Malta hosted the Securing Inclusion Stakeholder Workshop, bringing together stakeholders from academia, policy-making, civil society, diplomacy, and professional practice to discuss diversity and inclusion within the teaching and study of security studies.
Organised as part of the Erasmus+ Securing Inclusion Project, the workshop provided an important platform for dialogue and exchange on how security studies can become more inclusive, both in terms of curriculum content and pedagogical approaches.
Participants explored the challenges and opportunities involved in integrating diverse perspectives into the field, highlighting the importance of representing a wider range of voices, experiences, and knowledge systems in security education. Discussions focused on creating learning environments that are more reflective of contemporary societies and global security challenges.
The event featured contributions from experts working across academia, international relations, human rights, public policy, diplomacy, and civil society organisations. Student perspectives also played a key role in the discussions, underlining the value of engaging learners as active contributors to educational transformation. The workshop reinforced the Securing Inclusion Project’s commitment to fostering more inclusive and accessible security studies education through innovative teaching resources, digital tools, and collaborative stakeholder engagement.
